Royal Brunch celebration - January 2, 2010

Today we had a Royal Brunch celebration with our friends, Janice and Albert, and their daughter, Jacqueline. Janice and I decided that we wanted to cook an entire meal from the cookbook written by Princess Diana's personal chef. We had a great time and the food was delicious except for one notable exception: my tomato and dill mousse. It was a gelantinous mess! I had trouble with the gelatin when I was making the dish and I thought the mousse might not set up. Boy, was I right! It was more like a cold tomato and dill soup with some random bits of gelatin in it. Oh well, I tried and I think it will be delicious if I can just get the gelatin down.

Cute gold tree Janice made with adorable seasonal sayings on it
White roses on the table
Aromatic bitters we put in the champagne along with a sugar cube
(talk about a bubbly, delicious drink!)
Champagne from the Biltmore Estate (where they vacationed last New Year's)
T
The infamous tomato and dill mousse with shrimp garnish
Salad: butter lettuce topped with walnuts, goat cheese and pears
and homemade balsamic vinaigrette
Rolls
Cottage pie (SOOO delicious!!!)
Shortbread cookies dusted with sugar
Bread and butter pudding with amaretto-soaked raisins
(Princess Diana's favorite and now I know why! Absolutely delicious!!)
