France – Day 1 (Thursday, December 25, 2008): En route

From December 25, 2008, to January 2, 2009, we vacationed in Les Gets, France with our friends, Nick and Tina, along with Tina's daughter, Tori, and their daughter, Lillia, who is our goddaughter. Tori's best friend, Megan, was also on the trip. Megan received the trip as a Christmas present from her parents and neither she nor Tori knew that Megan was coming until Christmas Day. What a great surprise! We had an amazing vacation and really enjoyed the time away.

We left on Christmas Day afternoon for Les Gets, France, which is located in the French Alps. The nearest major city is Geneva so we flew Air France to Geneva with a layover in Paris. As we were packing on Christmas Eve, Joe realized he didn't have a suitcase big enough to accommodate his heavy winter clothes so he decided to go to Walmart and buy a suitcase. Well, needless to say, Walmart was closed (being Christmas Eve and all). He piled his clothes in a heavy duty contractor garbage bag and hauled them to my parents’ house on Christmas Day as they kindly agreed to let him borrow a suitcase. On Christmas Day on the way to my parents' house, Joe realized he forgot his toiletry bag so we had to go back home and get it making us late for the Christmas Day festivities. So far, this trip was getting off to a rough start and it didn’t get any better because …. when we were packing Joe’s clothes, he realized that he forgot 1/3 of them at home and, by now, it was too late to go back. Oh well -- thank goodness the chalet had a washer and dryer!

On the bright side, when we got to the airport I asked for an upgrade and we got one!! We flew business class to Paris and it was lovely. Positives to flying business class - champagne, better food, cloth napkins and reclining seats! Negatives to flying business class -- well, I don't think there was one!
