France – Day 5 (Monday, December 29, 2008): Morzine, Le Tyrol

After yesterday’s experience, Joe wasn’t sure he wanted to ski again but Nick persuaded him to give it one more try. Joe was glad he went because today he thought it was great. Joe’s observation from today’s skiing – French kids are whiners! While Tori and Joe were in ski school, the rest of us drove to a nearby village called Morzine. We shopped and walked around the town. It was quaint but not nearly as cute as Les Gets.
There were red Christmas trees all over Morzine. When walking through the town, there was also a neat picture painted on a random wall.

Water fountains like the one below could be found around town. There were also wooden carved statues everywhere and the one below stood out ... wonder why?

After everyone showered, we headed into town to get some supper. We ate at a place called Le Tyrol.
It had a very English feel to it except the waitress was oh so French. We split soupe gratinee which was french onion soup (do you still call it French onion soup when you are in France?). Joe had Toscana pizza which was a great flat bread pizza with tomato, cheese and chorizo (French version of pepperoni). Amanda had a tartiflette, a local dish made of bacon, cheese and potatoes, which was totally delectable! The only part of the meal that was not fun was the bill: a tad expensive to say the least.

Here are some before and after pictures (think we liked it?):
