France Day 2 (Friday, December 26, 2008): Arriving in Geneva

We arrived in Geneva on Friday afternoon and because we couldn’t check into the chalet until Saturday afternoon we spent the night in Geneva at the Mövenpick Hotel.

We decided to rent a car and drive ourselves from Geneva to Les Gets. We ended up with a Prius. Having never driven a Prius, let’s just say that Joe and I had a bit of difficult just starting the car! Then, once we got it started, it was a bit of a mystery how to get it into reverse. We finally ended up getting situated and headed to the hotel. Oh, did I mention the screens were all in French? We did eventually figure out how to get the screen in English.

We got to the hotel without incident; however, parking was nearly a disaster. It seems that Joe forgot to the put the car in park so as I was standing by the car getting ready to retrieve our luggage from the truck I realized as Joe was getting out of the car that it was still moving. I yelled “The car is still MOVING!!!!!” and, fortunately, Joe was able to hop back in, put on the brake and eventually get the car into park.

Our hotel room was modern and quite European and it was great to take a shower and have a quite sleep. We took a nap and then headed to dinner at the hotel restaurant. We both had beef ravioli with neapolitan sauce and it was quite delicious.

We walked over to the casino but, ultimately, decided not to go inside.
